SMPP at the National Conference on Export Control 2019

Mr Ashish Kansal, SMPP’s Executive Director was invited to the National Conference on Export Control 2019. FICCI, in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of the Government of India, and The Stimson Center, organized the “National Conference on Export Control 2019” on July 17, 2019 at FICCI, Federation House, Tansen Marg, New Delhi

Indian companies must ensure indigenous products and services are not exported to customers abroad that fronts for hostile non state actors or countries engaged in building nuclear, chemical, biological weapons and/or their delivery systems for these weapons against which sanctions are in place.

Since 2007, FICCI has organised about 25 sector-specific workshops to enhance industry awareness of Strategic Trade Controls in India. These programs have been conducted with the support and participation of the relevant Inter Ministerial Working Group (IMWG) member agencies, especially D&ISA/MEA, DDP and DGFT.

With India joining the Australia Group in 2018, and the steady growth and export-orientation of the bio-sector, it becomes vital for the industry to understand and comply with its obligations under Indian law. Against this backdrop, FICCI, this edition of the National Conference will include a special session focusing on compliance issues relating to the bio-pharma sector.

Representatives from Indian Government agencies including MEA, DGFT and DBT along with International policy makers, and representatives from the Indian and International Business community will be discussing India’s recent membership into export control regimes, changes to SCOMET list, and best practices in Internal compliance. Mr Ashish Kansal delivered the Vote of Thanks at this forum.
